Quick answers to the most common "why can't I…" questions about access. For the underlying model, see Access Control Overview.
"I can't see a project I expected to see." Walk through the grant routes in order:
- Did you create it? (If not, move on.)
- Are you directly shared as editor or viewer?
- Was the project shared with the whole workspace? If yes, are you a guest? (Guests are excluded.)
- Do you belong to a team that was given access?
- Is it a public project? Do you have the password if it's protected?
If none of those apply, you don't have access. Ask a workspace admin to share it with you.
"I have access but I can't edit." Check your seat. A Viewer seat caps everyone at view-only, regardless of project-level access.
"Several people on my team can't edit a project they should be able to edit." Check their seats before their project access. A Viewer seat silently caps everyone at view-only, and it's a common cause of "the share dialog says editor but they can't edit".
"The member exists in the workspace but isn't showing up when I try to add them to a team." Most likely they haven't accepted their workspace invitation yet. Atlas requires a fully accepted membership before they can join a team.
"I'm the only owner and I can't demote myself." Correct — a workspace must always have at least one owner. Promote someone else to owner first, then change your own role.
"I was an admin but now I can't change another admin." Correct — admins cannot modify other admins or owners. An owner has to do it.
"I'm an admin and I can't see the invoices / change the plan." Correct — billing is owners-only. Admins can manage members and seats, but not the subscription, invoices, or payment method. See Workspace Management → Billing.
"I removed someone from a team but they still have access to a project." They almost certainly have access through another route — direct share, workspace-shared, or another team. Walk through the routes in order and remove them from each one that applies. To fully off-board someone, remove them from the workspace.
"I unshared a project from the workspace but one person still has access." They have access through another route. Most likely: a direct share, or a team that has access to the project. Check the project's share list and the teams they're on.
